I am a published author, and the proud mother of three wonderful children, Hannah, Brendon and Tabitha. My husband, Rick, is a paramedic for FDNY, and I just happen to have a VERY close relationship with Mrs. Claus (or, as we call her around here, the "Santa's Better Half"). You can visit her REAL facebook page here:
With over 20 years experience in the Special Needs Community, I found myself drawn to the educational aspects of my job as the live-in manager of a residential group home. This, coupled with my drive and desire to push individuals to their truest full potential led to a natural leap into a career in education.
I am certified to teach students in grades 1-6, both with and without disabilities. Additionally, I have extensive experience teaching both adults and children with intellectual disabilities, and behavioral struggles.
I believe that a true educator must tailor her lessons to meet the interests and needs of her students. There is no effective 'one size fits all' approach to education.
Lesson plans that are engaging and entertaining are proven to be more effective, and I enjoy adding an element of 'entertainment' to my lessons.
I believe a well rounded student not only has strong academic skills, but excellent social skills as well. Respect, critical thinking skills, student accountability, and good citizenship play an important role in the classroom experience of my students.
